The Penang Aquarium or officially known as the Fisheries Department Research Institute Aquarium_is situated off Jalan Batu Maung. The aquarium is built in the Fisheries Research Institute complex itself. The aquarium has 25 tanks showcasing various types of marine life found in Malaysian tropical waters such as the lion fish, the boxfishes, moray eels,

tangs, surgeon fish, cat sharks, stone fish, angel fish, blue spotted stingray, fox face fish, parrot fish, squirrel fish, damsels, bivalves and many more. Big fishes such as snappers,  nyior nyior and  tudung periuk  can also be seen in the largest tank in the aquarium.

The Penang aquarium is a must place to visit for people who are interested in fishes. Visitors get to see and experience the underwater world as they walk around looking at each tank. The aquarium is also a fun place for children as the aquarium is designed to educate children through interactive exhibitions.

Admission fees:
RM5 for adults, RM2 for kids 7 to 12 years and RM1.50 for school groups.
There is no charge for kids below 7 years.
